nor-wegianwood:
there’s something i don’t understand about all these slytherin aesthetics floating around: isn’t slytherin the house of tradition and cunning? then why the fuck are we constantly portrayed as smirking, rule-breaking troublemakers?
i am a slytherin.
if i need to, i will snark and roll my eyes, but i don’t do this constantly. i don’t curse people out every moment of my life. i’m super respectful to people, because a) i don’t wanna get scolded for being rude, b) because people are, for the most part, alright. not everyone is umbridge.
i hold my tongue in certain situations, because i don’t want to throw away everything i worked for with a few stupid words. like, i climbed mountains for this, I got stressed for this, i didn’t sleep weeks on end for this - you think i’m hot-headed enough that i’ll say goodbye to all of that for something as passing as words? no!!
there are days i dress in leather and spikes and have fierce eyeliner on, but there are also days i put on my best dress and tie a bow in my hair and paint my lips red. you want me to be nice and quiet? sure thing, i’ll do that for you. its not hard. god knows i manage to do that everyday. if not for myself, then for my friends and family.
isn’t slytherin represented by water? water takes on the form of everything it is stored in, touches or sees. it’s mutable. i have cards up my sleeve - cards that have your face painted on them. i’m good at imitating. i am not afraid to use them. i will say no, and i will respect myself and my values, but if you need a super funny, charismatic person and the only people you know (including myself) are quiet and shy, call me up. i’ll provide you with that shit. i’ve lied through gritted teeth before to save myself, i’ll do the same for you, friend. after all, to slytherins, there’s barely any difference in loyalty and passion between what i do for me and what i do for my loved ones.
and that whole “i only give a shit about myself” attitude - are you kidding me? you must be.
narcissa?? prime example as to why that’s not, canonically, correct (cannon isn’t law, though).
and slytherin isn’t the only house that’s represented in a twisted way.
as a slytherin i say: do it properly, or don’t do it at all.
